Punta Gorda

Punta Gorda comes from the Spanish word “fat point” because it sticks out into Charlotte Harbor, one of the country’s largest natural harbors. Due to its proximity to the water, Hurricane Milton brought in storm surge, which has affected the area, creating some closures while recovery and restoration takes place.

Many people love visiting Fisherman’s Village because of its mix of great local boutiques with stores you can’t find anywhere else and the whimsical charm of the fishing village-themed, open-air shopping and dining destination that overlooks Charlotte Harbor.

Visitors love Punta Gorda’s relaxed lifestyle centered on the waterfront. There are a variety of full-service marinas, charter cruises, boat launches and water excursion options. Then there are the Punta Gorda Pathways if you’re more into exploring the city by land. The pathways are made up of approximately 18 miles of bicycle and pedestrian trails that connect the Punta Gorda neighborhoods, parks and commercial areas. If you didn’t bring a bicycle, that’s no problem. There are free bike loaner programs throughout the city. History buffs will appreciate taking a ride to History Park to enjoy the historic buildings and lush scenery and art lovers will appreciate the city’s 32 murals that show Punta Gorda’s history.

The great thing about Punta Gorda is that there is something for everyone and the city is guaranteed to help put you at ease. The relaxed Florida lifestyle just has that effect on people.

PLACES TO GO

Fisherman’s Village

This is the best place to go if you want to combine shopping dining and beautiful views everywhere you look. Fisherman’s Village sits on the site of the Maud Street City Docks, built in 1928-29 to replace the old King Street pier. The old docks became the Barron Collier Bridge, which was eventually replaced by the bridge known as northbound Route 41. It’s a great way to spend the day for everyone in your group.
