Online, onsite screening of ‘Street Heroines’ planned for May 22
The Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers will host a documentary that explores the courage and creativity of female graffiti artists from around the world as an in-person and virtual event.
“Street Heroines” is a feature-length film celebrating the courage and creativity of women who, despite their lack of recognition, have been an integral part of the graffiti and street art movement since the beginning. Authentic vérité storytelling woven between an interview-driven narrative, it juxtaposes the personal experiences of three emerging Latina artists from New York City, Mexico City and São Paulo as they navigate a male-dominated subculture to establish artistic identities within chaotic urban landscapes.
On May 22, stream the film from home or head to the Alliance for an intimate open-air event on the GreenMarket lawn. The outdoor event will feature live graffiti and mural painting by local artists, refreshments for purchase and a question-and-answer with the artists and filmmakers. Online streaming will begin at 6 p.m. Onsite, the festivities begin at 6 p.m.; the documentary will play when dark.
Advanced registration is required for both online and onsite.
The cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
