The Shell Factory & Nature Park
2787 North Tamiami Trail,
North Fort Myers (239)995-2141
Open every day: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Offers wide variety of shells, coral, fossils and rare specimens. The Nature Park has a large petting zoo. The Fun Park includes miniature golf and bumper boats. Captain Fishbone’s restaurant offers live entertainment and has opened the new Gator Dave’s – an outdoor dining experience. Enjoy The Teddy Bear Factory. Also houses Subway, Rosie’s Gourmet Fudge, U.S. Post Office and much more.
Four new attractions have been added. A big hit with prospectors young and old is The McShell and Company Mining Rig. The rig is set up outside of the Nature Park entrance, a wooden tower with cascading rushing water that leads to a “mining area” where prospectors mine a bag that contains at least one gemstone, coin or fossil.
There is also the new Lorikeet Aviary at the Nature Park, where the public can actually feed nectar to the colorful birds that inhabit their new aviary. In The Touch Center, there is an area where sea and land life can be held and studied. There are starfish, hermit crabs and leopard geckos among the wildlife.
At the main shops, there is The Money Museum, a free exhibit that features coins and notes and “oddities in mediums” from different eras and from around the world.
