‘Art Thru the Lens’ photography show opens

The Cape Coral Art League’s annual “Art Thru the Lens” photography show opened Thursday at a wine and cheese reception.

The league has issued a special thank you to Glenn Hewitt for providing musical entertainment as well as sponsors, Cape Coral Art & Frame and Frame Gallery, Cape Dental Care, Drs. Mark & Phillip Kraver, Craters & Freighters and the Grace Advisory Group.

Judge for the show was Stephan Frank, who is a teacher at Mariner High School, with 36 years of teaching experience. His specialty is in photography, both darkroom and digital design. His expertise is in the many aspects of photography and working with the young.

Winners were: First Place, Tom Haydock for “Hanging Out’; Second Place, Bill Koscher for “Do Not Disturb”, Third Place, Steve Conley for “Night Wheel”. Honorable Mentions went to Betsy Koscher for “Sitting Bull”, Bonnie Evangelista for “Roses” and Beth Ivens for “Giverny.

The gallery is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The gallery is at 516 Cultural Park Blvd. The show will hang until Jan. 24.

On Saturday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 27 the CCAL will host its third annual January Show & Sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the league’s facility at 516 Cultural Blvd.

The show will feature artists and vendors from the league and local artisans.

All three rooms will be filled with paintings, jewelry, sculpture, photography and crafts. Food vendors will be located in the parking lot along with live entertainment. Parking and admission is free. Come one, come all for a fantastic event in Cultural Park.

A watercolor workshop with Bonnie Broitzman teaching “The Value of Color” will be held on Monday, Jan. 21 through Jan. 23. Space is still available for a few artists.

Local artist Carol McArdle will offer a two-day workshop in oil or acrylic Friday, Feb. 1, and Saturday, Feb. 2l McArdle is well-known for her beautiful paintings of nature, wildlife and beaches. Learn how to handle your paints, plan your paintings and execute them. Call 239-772-5657 for more info and to register.

Feb. 8, 9 and 10 brings Sumi E master, Frederica Marshall to teach all about Sumi E painting along with a Tai Chai teacher who will lead participants through Tai Chai movements to enhance their workshop experience. A kit will be available for those who do not have the equipment. Call 239-772-5657 to inquire.

A flyer for each teacher is on our website, www.capecoralartleague.org along with a full explanation of each workshop. Two other workshops are scheduled in March. Marie Natale returns to CCAL for a four-day watercolor workshop on Monday, March 18, through Thursday, March 21. She will give a demo on Sunday, March 17, at the league. Donation is $10 and a reservation is advised. Refreshments will be served.

Member Carmen Sprague will be teaching a one-day photography workshop on Friday, March 22, on “How to Photograph Your Art Work”. Not only will she cover that subject but also teach how to use your computer programs to enhance the photos.

The next meeting of the CCAL is Monday, Feb. 4, at 9:30 a.m at the league building. Visitors are welcome.
