Cape Hospital welcomes New Year’s baby

By Staff

MICHAEL PISTELLA Cape Coral residents Omar Rodriguez and Yorvanka Delgado welcomed their third son and the city’s first baby of 2013 into the world at 1:44 a.m. Jan. 1 at Cape Coral Hospital. Dario James Rodriguez weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces.

Early Tuesday, Cape Coral residents Omar Rodriguez and Yorvanka Delgado celebrated the birth of their third son – the city’s first baby of 2013.

Dario James Rodriguez was born at 1:44 a.m., weighing in 8 pounds, 10 ounces. The couple, which has been married for nearly seven years, have two older boys, 6-year-old Adam Rodriguez and 5-year-old Derek Rodriguez.

“We’re extremely excited,” Omar Rodriguez said Wednesday.

“He’s very happy – he’s a very happy boy,” he added.

Because Dario was breach, Yorvanka Delgado was set to have a C-section next week. However, she began to have contractions Monday morning.

“They continued during the day and they got pretty strong,” Rodriguez said.

The couple checked into the hospital that evening. Undergoing the C-section, the stay-at-home mother delivered Dario without any hiccups or surprises.

“Everything went pretty smooth,” he said.

“It caught us kind of off guard, but it was good,” Rodriguez added. “We just feel very happy that he’s here.”

He explained that his wife was doing well after the operation.

“She’s doing great,” Rodriguez said. “She’s walking all over the hospital.”

The couple knew ahead of time that they were having another boy.

“We were hoping to get a girl on the third try,” Rodriguez said, jokingly adding that they can now complete their “baseball team” instead.

“That was the last one. There’s no more trying,” he said.

When Dario was born, they learned that he was the first Cape baby. He missed taking the title of first Lee County baby by about 10 minutes.

“It was my fault,” Rodriguez said, explaining that the hospital held off on the C-section as he waited for a relative to arrive to watch their other boys.

The hospital presented the couple with a gift basket filled with baby items.

“We haven’t opened it yet because it looks so nice,” he said.

Asked when Adam and Derek think about their new little brother, Rodriguez said the two have been deciding who gets to help feed and diaper the baby.

“The other two boys are really excited about it,” he said.

They got to see mom and their new brother Tuesday at feeding time.

“They were a little shocked about it,” he laughed of the visit.

Rodriguez is employed at a local consulting firm.

The couple has lived in the Cape for close to 10 years.

The title of the first Lee County baby of 2013 went to a girl.

Mazil Izaira Morales was born at 1:32 a.m. Jan. 1 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers. Her parents are Samuel and Cynthia Morales.
