City to sponsor Shred Day/Donation Day

By Staff

The City of Cape Coral is teaming up with Goodwill Industries to sponsor a Shred Day/Donation Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 30 in the City Hall parking lot, at 1015 Cultural Park Blvd.

Goodwill representatives from the agency’s Secure Document Destruction Service will accept personal papers and sensitive documents that contain information, which can be used in identity theft. Representatives will shred one bag or box of documents at no charge.

Experts estimate that more than 11.6 million Americans were victims of identity theft in 2011. Destroying these documents in a secure manner is the first step in protecting one’s identity.

Goodwill also will accept donations of goods that can be used to raise money to help people with disabilities or other disadvantages. Residents can drop off items for donation, such as clothing, shoes, household goods, linens, entertainment items like DVDs and CDs, small furniture, computers and electronics.
