Record-breaking crowds attend Coconut Festival

By Staff

A record-breaking nearly 30,000 turned out for the 7th Annual Coconut Festival at Sun Splash Family Waterpark last weekend.

Numerous Cape Coral events have recently sported record crowds, including the Cape’s annual Oktoberfest and the Farmers’ Market opening, said many officials. And the Coconut Festival was no exception, a great sign for the economy locally.

Cape’s Special Events Coordinator Todd King said the Coconut Fest could not have gone better.

“The Cape Special Events Division had an amazing weekend,” he said. “.38 Special was by far the best entertainment we have had in the history of the event.”

He also said the local band PUSH made an official announcement at the festival.

“They now have a national recording contract,” he said.

A big splash this year was the new “Coconut Cabana Lounge” a 100-foot x 140-foot festival tent with a full bar and giant LED screen TV.

“It was very successful, more than we anticipated, so we will improve on that in coming years,” he said.

It was a place, he said, for many to gather.

He noted a special thank you to Capital Bank and Fuccillo Kia for their contributions, along with music sponsors 94.5 The ARROW and Cat Country 107.1.

“Without them, we could not have made this possible.”
