Man dies after his motorcycle collides with pickup truck

By Staff

A Cape Coral man died after being ejected from his motorcycle last week when a pickup truck apparently collided into it on Del Prado Boulevard.

David Piloto, 63, of 217 Santa Barbara Blvd., was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries on Oct. 9 following the crash. When contacted Tuesday, hospital officials reported that Piloto had passed away.

The driver of the pickup truck, Cole H. Goodwin, 21, of 1705 S.E. Sixth Terrace, was taken to Cape Coral Hospital. He was later discharged.

At about 7:57 p.m., Goodwin was traveling west on Southeast 44th Street in a Dodge Dakota. Piloto was headed north on Del Prado, South, in the center lane on a 2012 Harley-Davidson, according to a police report.

Goodwin reportedly had a stop sign, but failed to yield to Piloto’s right of way, entering the northbound lanes of Del Prado. The motorcycle struck the front driver’s side fender of the Dodge. Piloto was ejected from the bike.

The report states that he was not wearing a helmet or eye protection.

Goodwin was apparently checked by officers for any impairment.

It is unknown if alcohol played a part in the accident, but a drug test was administered by police with negative results, according to the report.

The traffic homicide investigation is ongoing.
