Body discovered near Midpoint Bridge identified
A body located Tuesday morning in the Caloosahatchee near the Midpoint Memorial Bridge has been identified as a missing Cape Coral resident.
The body of Angel Gonzalez, 30, was found floating in the water.
“The death appears to be suicide,” Lt. Larry King, a spokesperson for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, said.
Gonzalez reportedly has been missing since Sunday.
At 10:39 a.m. Tuesday, the LCSO responded to a report of a body in the Caloosahatchee. A man was bicycling across the bridge when he stopped at the top of the bridge and “happened to look down,” according to officials.
“He spotted a body floating near the canal dividers,” King said.
The bicyclist called 911, and the LCSO responded.
The Fort Myers Police Department and Cape Coral Police Department assisted with the operation.
