Motorcyclist injured in accident released from hospital
A Cape Coral motorcyclist who allegedly ran a red light on Veterans Memorial Parkway and hit a car two weeks ago has been released from the hospital.
David Thomas Fleck, 22, had been discharged Tuesday from Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following the crash, according to officials.
At about 9:38 a.m., Sept. 4, Fleck was headed east on Veterans on a 2005 Yamaha, approaching Santa Barbara Boulevard. Witnesses reported to police that as he came to the intersection, the traffic signal turned red.
At the same time, a 2008 Chevrolet was headed south on Santa Barbara, driven by Jaynie Marie Beck, 32, of Cape Coral. When the signal turned red for Fleck, it turned green for Beck to continue southbound.
According to officials, the Chevrolet cleared about three-fourths of the intersection when the motorcycle collided into its passenger’s side. Fleck had continued east, running the red light. He did not slow down or stop.
Fleck struck the passenger’s side and window of the Chevrolet, then was ejected from the motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet at the time.
Due to the collision, the Chevrolet drove over the median and into the northbound lanes of Santa Barbara. The car struck the driver’s side of a 2009 Chevrolet that had entered the west turn lane of Santa Barbara.
Fleck sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident and was trauma alerted to the hospital, where he underwent surgery, according to officials.
Beck sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported to the Cape Coral Hospital, where she was treated and later released.
The driver of the 2009 Chevrolet, Brigette Donisch, 58, of Cape Coral, reportedly was not injured and refused medical attention on scene.
Police noted that the crash does not appear to be alcohol or drug related.
