The Fraternal Order Of Eagles #3957 will have its “Half-Way to St. Pattys Day” celebration on Saturday between 2 and 6 p.m.. Come on down wearing your green for a delicious corned beef and cabbage dinner (only $8/or a sandwich for $5). Bud Smith will keep your feet tapping for the occasion. Bonsai Society

A bonsai workshop will be the feature of The Bonsai Society of Southwest Florida’s monthly meeting on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Support Personnel Association of Lee County (SPALC) Building at 6281 Metro Plantation Road, Fort Myers, at 9 a.m.

Mike Cartrett, a popular Florida bonsai artist, will provide a demonstration and hold a workshop using dwarf clusia.

The public is invited to attend the meeting. There is no charge for attending and parking is free.

Bonsai is a horticultural art of growing trees in pots. It had its origins in China and Japan. Information about bonsai and the association will be available at the meeting.

New Resident Club

The New Resident Club is a social organization for both couples and singles. Full time and part-time residents are welcome. If you’ve lived in Cape Coral for less than three years then now is the time to join! If you’ve resided here longer than three years then you can join the club in September when we have open enrollment.

The club offers monthly activities and network opportunities. Monthly events consists of cocktails on the cape, dinner/dance, ladies luncheon, coffee social, game night, bowling, golfing, book club, potlucks and so much more. Whether you are a full time or part time resident, single or married September is the month that you don’t have to be a “new” to join.

The social club was founded in 1967 with over 500 current members formed to help people meet new friends and learn about the community. Members receive an offer of a free one month subscription to The Breeze, our local newspaper. During the general meeting, dinner dances and at the ladies luncheon special raffles are held. Generous donations are given by local businesses to welcome our members and become acquainted with their services.

Cost of membership is $35 for two years.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles wants to remind members that dues are to be paid by Aug. 31. Red key cards will not work after that date so please don’t risk being dropped from our membership list. The Tiger Bay Club of Southwest Florida has announced that political consultant and commentator James Carville will headline the club’s annual dinner event, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 17 , at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs. Registration and networking will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner and program at 7.

Carville is nationally recognized as a political consultant, analyst, pundit, media personality and author of best-selling books on a broad range of topics. The former co-host of CNN’s “Crossfire” gained prominence as a political mastermind for his work on Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. Carville, nicknamed “The Ragin’ Cajun,” is a recurring guest on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” and often debates political topics with his wife, Republican strategist Mary Matalin.

Carville’s presentation will provide insight into the post-convention political scene and what he expects for the November elections. The no-holds-barred summary will include analysis of both parties’ efforts to win the White House, U.S. Senate and House seats, and much more.
