Drum circle

Drummers of all experience levels are invited to an open drum circle at the Alliance for the Arts campus surrounding the GreenMarket grounds on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your own drum, or borrow one and jointhe fun! If you don’t have a drum of your own you can bring a pot, pan, bucket, barrel or anything else you can think of that ispercussive.

Children of all ages are encouraged to participate and learn a few basic drumming skills. The drum circle will follow Anna Withrow’s free morning yoga class, which starts at 9:30 a.m. The GreenMarket puts local growers, artisans and bakers in touch with our community, andoffers visitors fun activities including gardening workshops,community garden projects, live music, children’s art days, free Wi-Fi, and a chance to gather with friends. Open drum circles are the latest addition to GreenMarket’s ongoing efforts to encourage andsupport efforts towards sustainability in our area, while having fundoing it. Singers welcome

Did you sing in your high school or college chorus? Or maybe you once sang in your church choir. Would you like to experience the joy of making music again, but the thought of going to an audition without knowing anyone is a little scary? Now there is a kinder, gentler way. The Symphonic Chorale of Southwest Florida invites prospective singers to find out more about the organization during two open rehearsals.

The first of these will be Sept. 17 at St. Hilary’s Church, 5011 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers. The second will be Sept. 24 at Canterbury School, 8141 College Parkway, Fort Myers, the Chorale’s usual rehearsal location. Both rehearsals will run from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. After this low-key introduction, the audition process. if you choose it, will be a snap.

The Chorale’s second season, From Broadway to Main Street: A Season of American Song, will include several performances at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall and BIG Arts.

The Chorale, ordinary people making extraordinary art, welcomes anyone age 15 or older.

Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra

Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra has announced a pair of events for September and October.

A Meet and Greet Reception will be held from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. on Sept. 18.

The reception will be hosted by Robb & Stuckey International, 13170 South Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers

‘A Family Affair’

Art at the library

The following artists are exhibiting now until Sept. 15 at the Cape Coral Library located at 921 S.W. 39th Terrace.

n Joe Orsini will exhibit his paintings of tropical birds and flowers that reflect his many travels throughout the Caribbean; his love of bold, bright colors; and the Southwest Florida lifestyle.

Alice in Wonderland, A Mystery, will be held from 6:30 p.m. -9:30 p.m. Oct. 20, at the Southwest Florida Museum of History, 2031 Jackson Street, Fort Myers.

Join Alice for the Symphony’s interactive event featuring Clues, Croquet (with Pink Flamingos, of course) and Costumes! Take a trip down the rabbit hole into the fantasy world of the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts in this entertaining themed event.

It all happens at the Southwest Florida Museum of History. Come play this fun interactive game. Solve the clues, grab a flamingo and meet the musicians. Could it be the smashed tarts or the broken bottle marked “Drink Me!” that we are seeking? The event will start with a jazz concert featuring members of the Southwest Florida Symphony. Croquet and the Mystery Game to follow. Food and beverages will be served with a cash bar. The Silent Auction includes the chance to conduct the Symphony, trips and art.

English Country Dancing
