A Cape Coral motorcyclist remained hospitalized Wednesday after apparently running a red light on Veterans Memorial Parkway and crashing into a car.

David Thomas Fleck, 22, was listed in serious condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported following the accident Tuesday.

At about 9:38 a.m., Fleck was traveling eastbound on a 2005 Yamaha on Veterans and approaching Santa Barbara Boulevard. Witnesses reported to police that as he came to the intersection, the traffic signal turned red.

At the same time, a 2008 Chevrolet, driven by Jaynie Marie Beck, 32, of Cape Coral, was headed south on Santa Barbara. When the signal turned red for Fleck, it turned green for Beck to continue south.

According to officials, the Chevrolet cleared about three-fourths of the intersection when the motorcycle collided into its passenger’s side. Fleck had continued eastbound, running the red light. He did not slow down or stop, according to reports.

Fleck struck the passenger’s side and window of the Chevrolet, then was ejected from the motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet at the time.

Due to the collision, the Chevrolet drove over the median and into the northbound lanes of Santa Barbara. The car struck the driver’s side of a 2009 Chevrolet that had entered the west turn lane of Santa Barbara.

Fleck sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident and was trauma alerted to the hospital, where he underwent surgery, according to officials.

Beck sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Cape Coral Hospital. As of Wednesday, she had been treated and released.

The driver of the 2009 Chevrolet, Brigette Donisch, 58, of Cape Coral, reportedly was not injured and refused medical attention on scene.

Police noted that the crash does not appear to be alcohol or drug related.

The case is pending further investigation but does not appear criminal.
