By Staff

Based on the latest information and projections concerning the impact Tropical Storm Isaac will have on the Southwest Florida community, Lee County Public Schools has made the decision to close all schools and District offices on Monday, Aug. 27.

The district has been in close communication with Lee County Emergency Management officials and it is the judgment that closing schools and District offices Monday is necessary. Officials have issued a Tropical Storm Watch for parts of Southwest Florida while other areas are under a Hurricane Warning.

Based on these watches, warnings and projections, the district will be closed Monday

While the exact impact of the storm is not known, officials believe there is the potential for torrential rain, possible flooding in various areas of Lee County and high winds that could cause power outages.

As the storm passes, as soon as possible Monday pre-identified district staff will perform an assessment on district facilities, roadways, etc., to gauge the condition of schools, offices and other vital infrastructure essential to the operation of the school system.

After this assessment Monday a decision will be made about the status of the district moving forward during the week, and that information/decision will be shared with the media and community as soon as possible.
