A man accused of robbing a Fifth Third Bank in Cape Coral while claiming to be in possession of a gun remained in custody Wednesday at the Lee County Jail.

Jeffrey Blaine Robinson, 30, was arrested and charged Tuesday with one count of robbery no firearm or weapon. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

Multiple addresses, two in the Cape and one in Hollywood, Fla. are listed for Robinson.

At about 10:15 a.m. Monday, a man entered the Fifth Third Bank at 1801 N.E. Pine Island Road and approached a teller. The man gave the teller a bag and a note. The note said he had a gun and to place the money in the bag.

In fear, the teller put money in the bag and the man started to leave. He realized that he had left the note behind and retrieved it from the counter, according to a report. He then fled the bank on foot traveling eastbound.

Cape police responded, but the man was gone.

The teller provided a description of the robber, and stated that the only thing the man said was “oh” when he realized that he left the note behind.

The man’s description and surveillance photos were released, and the CCPD began getting tips on possible suspects. According to the report, of the tips received, the most promising was one for Robinson, who fit the description.

The teller and a witness identified him as the robber in a photo lineup.

Authorities located Robinson at Lee Memorial Hospital on Tuesday. He was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail for booking.

He reportedly confessed to committing the bank robbery.

Robinson has a court appearance scheduled Sept. 10.
