A Cape Coral man is accused of trafficking after authorities reportedly discovered a marijuana cultivation operation at his home last week.

Alberto R. Meneses, 34, of 412 N.E. 23rd Place, was arrested and charged with marijuana producing and marijuana traffick excess of 25 pounds or 300 plants or more, according to a report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

He was also charged with one count of drug equipment use possess manufacture drug paraphernalia to transport drugs.

As of Thursday, Meneses had been released from jail on $10,000 bond.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office forward information to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office about a possible grow operation at 412 N.E. 23rd Place. On July 18, the LCSO was doing surveillance when a man exited the residence.

Detectives made contact with the man, later identified as Meneses.

According to the report, Meneses stated that he was renting the home and agreed to a search of the residence, even letting officers use his keys.

Inside the home, detectives discovered seven “actively growing marijuana plants” in a bedroom, with two plants hanging on the wall drying. There were 15 marijuana plants in a second bedroom and 13 plants in a third bedroom.

Detectives also uncovered paraphernalia used to grow marijuana, including florescent high-powered light bulbs, light hoods, electrical ballasts and fans.

During an interview at the residence, Meneses stated that he wanted an attorney, but reportedly agreed to show the officers around the home. He reportedly explained to them how he was supplying the rooms with power.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail.

Meneses has a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 20.

He could not be reached for comment Thursday on the charges.
