The Lee County Health Department is expanding its regular weekday Immunization Clinic hours, at 3920 Michigan Avenue, for the next three weeks to better serve the community.

The Immunizations Clinic, regularly closed Friday mornings, will open at 8 a.m. Friday, July 27. It will close that day at its regular time of 3:30 p.m.

Then starting Monday, July 30, clinic hours will expand by opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 6 p.m. through Thursday, Aug. 9. On Friday, Aug. 10, the clinic will open at 8 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays the health department is closed.

That’s up to an extra 14.5 hours a week.

“We are trying to see if this is helpful to the public and eliminates some of their wait time,” said Kim White, RN, immunizations manager, in a prepared statement.

The number of youth immunization clients quadruples during the weeks before school starts and the first few days of school.

“The back to school rush is well under way,” said White. “We have already been busy for much of July, and I expect it will become busier every day.” Staff is prepared to work 10-hour days during this time.

Parents bringing their children in for shots need to bring the children’s immunization record. To avoid a wait, immunizations can be administered by the child’s regular health care provider or during the child’s birth month.
