A Cape Coral young adult with aspirations to become a police officer has just been chosen to receive a scholarship toward his education.

Cape Coral resident Cody Tacy, 18, was among those chosen from more than 35,000 nominees nationwide for making a positive impact in his community. Only 200 were chosen out of those thousands of nominees.

He will receive a $1,000 scholarship through Kohl’s Department Store’s Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program.

Since he was in ninth grade, Tacy has been a Cape Coral Police Explorer volunteer and has assisted local law enforcement at numerous community events including helping to raise donations for fallen officers.

He could not be more deserving, said Cape Coral Police Explorer Advisor Corp. Nick Slover. Slover is the advisor of Explorer Post 465 of Cape Coral.

“He’s a young passionate adult, and has his head in the game,” Slover said. “I see good things coming from him.

“I believe he is passionate about being a police officer, and I believe he will fulfill his dream. I’m very happy he got the scholarship; it will aid him in his process to becoming a police officer.”

Tacy is a student at Edison State College.

“I’ve always been interested in law enforcement,” he said. “I thought it (The Explorers) would be a good way to learn about it, getting first-hand knowledge and getting to know people in Cape Coral law enforcement. It is a great police department. I would really like to work for them someday.”

He is pursuing an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, then plans on going on to a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Administration.

“I was pretty excited to learn I got the scholarship,” he said. “I also got the Hope Scholarship from Edison.”
