A Nautical Flea Market and BBQ Festival will be held this weekend at the German American Club, with about 200 vendors of all things nautical.

The event will take place at the German American Club on Pine Island Road, today and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The theme of this year’s festival will be “Rock and Rolling Back the Prices to the Good Old Days.”

“It’s vendors that are selling new, used, liquidated and closed-out nautical, fishing and boating equipment and supplies,” said promoter Larry Burdgick.

The Nautical Flea Market will have antique collectibles and maps, marine artifacts, rods, reels, lures and lines, boating apparel, taxidermy, diving equipment, and more, he added.

A wide selection of new and used boats will also be displayed by marinas and private parties, and there will be a separate area called the boat corral, separate from the nautical flea market area. It is designed for private and dealer new and used boat sales.

“Customers can shop, compare and make the deal directly with the seller. All boats in the corral are for sale, with boats and watercraft only,” he said.

“I’ve always been into fishing and boating.”

After he got laid off from a job, he decided to coordinate these events.

“I do 10 of these shows a year, all over Florida,” Burdgick said. “The last one, in Stuart, was at Martin County Fairgrounds.”

It was a fantastic response, he added.

“10,000 attended.”

He said he expects about 200 vendors, some local, some from around the area and state.

“Cape Coral is a great area for this. There are 80,000 registered boaters in Lee County. It’s the perfect place.”

Mark Atherley, one of the owners of Sea Tow Fort Myers/Cape Coral will be there.

“Over the years we have collected some flea market-type stuff, some new, some old, and we thought it was a good venue. We’re going to load it up in a few trailers and go out there.

“We’ll have a lot of used marine items, life jackets, fender holders, miscellaneous stuff. Some motor parts, indoor and outdoor.”

It’s not just vendors, Burdgick said. “The Coast Gurad Auxiliary will also be there to answer questions.”

USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 9-10 is attending.

“That’s the local coast guard auxiliary,” said representative Armango Ingratta. “We will have a trailer there for safe boating with all kind of information, our educational trailer.”
