Man charged with indecent exposure, loitering

By Staff

A man was arrested and charged Monday with indecent exposure after he was reportedly found naked on the front porch of a Cape Coral home.

Robert Dennis Hessler, 43, a transient from St. James City, is facing one count each of exposure of sexual organs and loitering or prowling.

At 12:22 a.m., Cape police responded to an indecent exposure call in the 3200 block of Delilah Drive. Upon arriving, the caller directed officers to a wooded area on his property and explained that a man was in the bushes.

The man, identified as Hessler, exited the bushes and was detained.

According to an arrest report, the caller told police that he arrived home about an hour earlier and found Hessler sitting on his porch completely naked. He told Hessler to get off the porch, and Hessler said he was dropped off there.

The man noticed a pair of jeans and a shirt in front of his front door.

He said he again yelled at Hessler to leave, but Hessler walked over to the other side of the porch and urinated. The man then grabbed Hessler, made him pick up his clothes and shoved him out into the roadway.

The homeowner then contacted police.

According to the report, Hessler then got dressed at the end of the driveway, walked into the bushes across the street and returned with a stick. The man told police that he did not feel threatened by the stick.

He said he was more “freaked out” by the nudity and urination.

When questioned by police, Hessler said he was dropped off by someone and he lives on Pine Island. He could not give an answer for why he was naked.

Hessler was transported to the hospital “due to a large amount of bruises, lacerations and overall poor hygiene” from living outdoors, the report states. After his treatment and release, Hessler was taken to the Lee County Jail.

It was unknown Wednesday if bond or a court date had been set for him.
