Grand opening this Sunday for new Chabad Jewish Center

By Staff

The grand opening of the new Chabad Jewish Center will take place Sunday, June 3, at 1716 Cape Coral Parkway, W.

“Dignitaries and friends from all segments of the community will celebrate the realization of a long-awaited dream,” said center spokesperson Ira Geshelin.

“Our rabbi is Yossi Labkowski, and his wife Rivky also needs to be mentioned. She’s an integral part of the center.”

The event will begin at 12:30 p.m., and include a ribbon-cutting, Mezuza Affixing, music and refreshments.

“The venter has been in the making since 2004,” Geshelin said.

“We were in a rented space on Chiquita (Boulevard),” Rabbi Labkowski said. “And now, this is ours.”

He talked about the importance of the formal grand opening.

“It’s a sense of establishment in the community.”

The building is approximately 8,000 square feet.

“We are only in part of the center now,” he said. “Eventually our plans are to take over the whole building.”

Services are going on now there, “but the ceremony is going to be the official introduction to community members.”

Officials said the Jewish community in Cape Coral “is abuzz with excitement” about the new center.

“For the thousands of families of all denominations touched by Chabad’s activities, this is a true time of rejoicing,” the rabbi said in his invitation to the community.

Friends from all segments of the community are encouraged to attend.

“Chabad has been privileged to provide a safety net to families and individuals through counseling, hospital visitations, adult and youth education classes, hands-on educational programs, holiday

enrichment programs, summer and winter camp and social services,” Labkowski said in the prepared statement. “Chabad is always there for an adult or child in need.”

Labkowski credits many in the community for helping this dream of a new center become a reality.

“With the help of some very generous community members and donors, led by Mr. Moshe Tabacinic, Chabad was able to purchase the building and renovate it to suit our ever growing needs.”
