TALLAHASSEE The State Emergency Response Team is responding to Tropical Storm Beryl, now upgraded to a full tropical storm. The State Emergency Operations Center is operating a Level Two, partial activation, to support the needs of the impacted counties in response to the storm. Residents and visitors should closely monitor the weather in their area and heed all instructions from local officials.

“Tropical Storm Beryl is projected to make landfall along the Northeast Florida Coast tonight and has the potential for real negative impacts, including dangerous thunderstorms, coastal flooding and beach erosion,” said Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Bryan W. Koon in a prepared statement. “Residents and visitors along Florida’s east coast should continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Beryl as it moves towards the Southeast United States coast.”

As of 2 p.m. EDT, Tropical Storm Beryl was located 110 miles east of Jacksonville. Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect from the Volusia and Brevard County line through South Carolina and also for Baker, Union, Bradford, Clay and Putnam counties in Northeast Florida. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph and little change in strength is forecast before the storm makes landfall late tonight along the Northeast Florida Coast.
