Moms can swim free: Sun Splash offers free admission Mother’s Day weekend
Mothers looking for some fun in the sun this weekend are invited to Sun Splash Family Waterpark, where they can get in free with a paid child.
The park is offering free admission to mothers of all generations today and Sunday with the purchase of a child’s ticket, or an adult ticket for a teen.
“This is her day,” Sandra Greiner, the manager of the park, said.
“It’s our way to appreciate the moms this weekend,” she said.
Each mother will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize.
The prizes up for grabs are a $500 gift certificate to Ideal Image, a $250 shopping spree at the Tanger Outlet Mall and a three-day, two-night stay at the Resort at Marina Village, a package with an approximate value of $676.
“The prizes are phenomenal,” Greiner said.
As the drawing will be done at about 4 p.m. Sunday, ticket holders do not need to be present to win. To keep it fair, each mother gets one entry.
The park first hosted the Mother’s Day discount weekend last year.
“It’s kind of a whole family day we’re trying to promote here for moms,” Greiner said.
She explained that most people are typically trying to spend the day with family this weekend, so the park wanted to offer something for them.
“We see a different crowd,” she said, adding the the normal crowd is mothers and children. “You see more of the family unit together.”
“It’s usually everybody in the family,” Greiner said.
Last year, there were about 1,200 people at the park per day during the Mother’s Day weekend. She estimated that about half were mothers.
There will also be a special addition to the menu this weekend. For $6.50, visitors can have barbecue chicken breast with potato salad and coleslaw.
“We did chicken breast a few times last year as a test,” she said, adding that the public loved it and it gives an option over hot dogs and burgers.
The park will offer similar discounts on Father’s Day and Grandparents’ Day.
A regular child’s ticket – up to age 12 – costs $12.95 for Cape Coral residents and $15.95 for non-residents. For those bringing teenagers, an adult ticket costs $14.95 for residents and $17.95 for non-residents.
The park is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both today and Sunday.
Greiner noted that a Family Fun Night is scheduled today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Cost is $7 for residents and $9 for non-residents, regardless of age.
Sun Splash Family Waterpark is at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd.
Parking costs $5 per day or $2 for season pass holders.
