Two injured in three-vehicle crash on Pine Island Road
Two Cape Coral drivers were transported to the hospital Monday after being involved in a three-vehicle accident on State Road 78/Pine Island Road.
At 3:16 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a traffic crash near Tipton Drive. Adrienne Smith, 17, of the Cape, was headed east on Pine Island Road in a 2004 Infiniti when she stopped to make a left turn onto Tipton.
Dana Sharp, 32, also of Cape Coral, was traveling east on Pine Island Road at the same time in a 2007 GM SUV when she failed to observe the Infiniti stopped ahead. The GM collided into the rear-end of the Infiniti, causing it to rotate.
The Infiniti rotated into the path of a 1999 Ford F-350 pickup truck headed west on Pine Island. The truck was towing a 10-foot boat and trailer.
“The front of the Infiniti struck the rear left side of the truck,” Lt. Greg Bueno of the Florida Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
Smith and Sharp were taken to the Cape Coral Hospital with injuries.
Both had been discharged as of Tuesday, according to hospital officials.
The driver of the pickup truck, Ilie Neculae, 67, and his passenger, Susan Neculae, 60, both of St. James City, were not injured in the accident.
Bueno said Sharp was issued a citation for careless driving.
