Roadwatch update: April 12-April 18

The Lee County Department of Transportation has issued a Roadwatch update for April 12-April 18:

New 4/12/2012

A&W Bulb Road Improvements Project from Gladiolus Drive to Heritage Cove

Boulevard;

Starting April 16, 2012 work begins on the reconstruction and resurfacing of the existing two-lane

roadway, widening travel lanes to 11 feet, adding four-foot paved shoulders (designated as bike lanes)

on each side of the road, and construction of a five-foot sidewalk to connect the existing sidewalk

segments on the east side between McGregor Blvd and Gladiolus Drive. Improvements also include

roadway drainage, and sewer and water line improvements. Local access will be maintained

throughout the project and speed limit will be reduced to 30 mph during construction. PLEASE

DRIVE WITH CARE and be aware of crews working near the roadway.

The contractor will initially be onsite surveying and installing erosion control and signage. No lane

closures are expected this week.

Project completion is expected in spring 2013. The contractor is Better Roads, Inc.

Update 4/12/2012

Cypress Lake Drive Summerlin Rd to McGregor Blvd. Installation of underground fiber

conduits and pull boxes will commence on Tuesday, January 17th. The work will begin on the

northwest corner of Summerlin Rd & Cypress Lake and progress to the west on the north side of

Cypress Lake Dr to McGregor Blvd. Men and equipment will be working in close proximity to

the outside westbound travel lane and will have the sidewalk closed intermittently during

daytime working hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Pedestrians are asked to use the sidewalk on

the south side of Cypress Lake Dr. during this time period. Completion of this project is

scheduled for April 27, 2012.

Update 4/12/2012

Del Prado and SE 22nd Lane and Del Prado and SE 12th Terrace: Underground directional

boring and trenching will begin on Monday March 19th at Del Prado @ SE 22nd Lane on all four

corners of the intersection and once completed will move on to Del Prado @ SE 12th Terrace

doing the same. Men and equipment will be working in close proximity to the travel lanes and

advise motorists to use caution when traveling through the intersections. The duration of the

work is anticipated to be completed on May 25th, 2012.

New 4/12/2012

Fowler Street sidewalk improvements;

Starting on April 16, 2012 contractors will begin the repair of sidewalk segments and curb ramps

between Simpson St and Moreno Ave. Temporary sidewalk closures will be required during

construction and lane closures on Fowler Street may be required between 9am and 4 pm.

Project completion is expected in the Fall of 2012.

Gladiolus Drive, Harlem Heights Bus Shelters;

Contractors will be working on the installation of 4 bus shelters and 1 bench along Gladiolus

Drive between west of Johnson St and east of Hagie Drive. Temporary sidewalk closures will be

required during construction and lane closures may be required on Gladiolus Drive between 9 am

and 4 pm.

Project completions is expected in Summer 2012.

New 4/12/2012

Sunniland Boulevard Sidewalks;

Contractors will be working on the installation on a 5′ concrete sidewalk along Sunniland

Boulevard from Lee Boulevard to Park Street on the east side of the roadway and installation of

sidewalk and storm drainage on 25th Street from Sunniland Boulevard to Eunice Ave.

Project completions is expected in Summer 2012.

I. ROAD AND BRIDGE PROJECTS

Update 3/1/2012

Bonita Beach Road Six-Laning -Old 41 to Lime Street

Lee County continues work to widen existing Bonita Beach Road from four to six lanes from

Old 41 to Lime Street. This project, jointly funded by Lee County Department of Transportation

and the City of Bonita Springs, completes the six-laning of Bonita Beach Road from Old 41 to I-

75 and adds a bike lane and sidewalk in each direction. PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE and

be aware of heavy equipment entering/exiting the roadway.

Traffic (including bicycle and pedestrian) is shifted to the north side of the roadway for crews to

work on the south side. This shift will remain in place over the next several months.

Drainage, utility work and curb installation continue along the project and may require turn lane

closures (daytime and nighttime) and lane closures (nighttime) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.,

WEATHER PERMITTING.

Underground utility work will be a large part of this project. The decorative street lighting

remains along the roadway and median landscaping will be installed. Please use caution when

traveling in the work zone. The project is scheduled to be complete in early 2013. The

contractor is APAC Southeast, Inc.

Update 12/29/2011

Cape Coral Toll Plaza Demolition/Reconstruction

Demolition and reconstruction at the toll plaza continues. The four westbound lanes are shifted

to the south (lanes 1 through 4 are shifted to lanes 5 through 8).

Effective immediately, “oversized load” trucks are NOT permitted through the travel lanes of

Cape Coral Toll plaza (in either direction). This includes oversized load trucks with State

permits. Oversized load truckers should use the Midpoint or north bridges for access to Fort

Myers while the toll plaza is under construction. For updates on all lanes closures, traffic shifts

The project is expected to be complete by spring, 2012.

New 3/15/2012

Daniels Parkway Six Laning – Chamberlin Parkway to Gateway Boulevard

Lee County is nearing completion of widening Daniels Parkway from four to six lanes from

Chamberlin Parkway to Gateway Boulevard. This project has reconstructed the Daniels Parkway

and Chamberlin Parkway intersection, creating a four way signalized intersection. PLEASE

DRIVE WITH CARE and be aware of heavy equipment entering/exiting the roadway. Crews

continue working throughout the project area as work nears completion.

Through Spring 2012, Chana Court will be closed at Daniels Parkway for crews to install signals

and construct the north side of the Chamberlin Parkway intersection. Local traffic will be

permitted access to Chana Court from Treeline Avenue.

The majority of the widening along Daniels Parkway is complete. Landscaping has been

installed within the median as part of the project. The contractor is Better Roads, Inc.

Update 11/24/2011

Matlacha Bridge

The replacement of the Matlacha Bridge began October 11, 2010. Traffic will remain on the

existing bridge with reduced lane widths; the sidewalk on the south side of the bridge will be

closed. Two-way traffic will be maintained during daylight hours. The project will take

approximately two years. Additional information is available on the project website at

The Matlacha Bridge will periodically be reduced to one lane of traffic. Motorists should expect

delays. Flagmen will be on site to direct traffic. PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE and be aware of

workers and equipment on the roadway.

Six Mile Cypress Parkway Four Laning Daniels Parkway to south of Winkler Road

Northbound and southbound travel lanes are currently shifted west to the newly constructed Six

Mile Cypress Parkway from Brookshire Lake Boulevard to Heritage Palms. Motorists should

expect intermittent lane closures on Penzance Boulevard near Six Mile Cypress Parkway.

Flagmen will be on site to direct traffic.

PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE and be aware of heavy equipment entering/exiting the roadway.

This project will widen the two-lane section of Six Mile Cypress to a four-lane divided highway.

This work will include the installation of a signalized intersection at Penzance Boulevard and the

addition of a paved path along the west side of the roadway from Heritage Palms to Daniels

Parkway. The tentative completion date is late Spring 2012.

II. Road/Bridge Maintenance

Update 3/29/2012

Myerlee Country Club Blvd. – Lee County DOT will be managing the drainage improvement

work for the Myerlee Country Club Blvd. off Winkler. The job is scheduled to start March 26,

2012 and finish April 30, 2012 weather permitting. There will be partial road closures from 7:00

am to 4:00 pm. Variable message boards will be placed to alert drivers to road closures.

III. Landscaping

New 12/ 29/2011

Estero Parkway Extension Landscaping Lee County DOT Operations will be managing

the installation of irrigation and landscaping along Estero Parkway Extension between Three

Oaks Parkway and Ben Hill Griffin Parkway. This project is scheduled to be completed by the

end of May 2012. Lane closures and traffic impacts may occur.

Update 3/29/2012

Three Oaks Parkway Landscaping Lee County DOT Operations will be managing the

installation of irrigation and landscaping along Three Oaks Parkway, between Corkscrew Road

and Alico Road. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of April, 2012. Lane

closures and traffic impacts may occur.
