Harry Chapin Food Bank could win $1 million from Walmart

The Harry Chapin Food Bank

3760 Fowler Street

Fort Myers, FL 33901

The Harry Chapin Food Bank is asking to public to help the food bank win $1 million to fight hunger in Southwest Florida.

Walmart is launching a “Fighting Hunger Together” Facebook campaign encouraging the public to help select one community to receive the money. That community could be the home of the Harry Chapin Food Bank, which provides food throughout the five-county Southwest Florida area.

Harry Chapin will be competing against large metropolitan areas across the United States so it’s important for everyone to cast their vote every day, local officials said. The Harry Chapin Food Bank is one of Walmart’s partners and could receive $50,000 as one of 20 runner-up communities.

Visit Walmart’s in-store partnership and support Southwest Florida by voting for our community at

2. Click on the Walmart Fighting Hunger tab

3. Select State > Florida

4. Select Community > Cape Coral/Fort Myers, FL

5. Click VOTE & SHARE

The public has always been receptive to the Harry Chapin Food Bank and the food bank needs the support of our entire five-county area in this endeavor. Remember, votes can be cast every day -and the food bank could be one of the recipients. The food bank asks area residents to send this information to friends, even those in other communities and states, as their votes will count.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to families in need through a network of nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Charlotte and Glades counties, who provide food to more than 30,000 people monthly. Over 1 million pounds of food are distributed monthly. For every dollar donated, about $6 in food value goes back to the community. In the past calendar year, The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed more than 13.7 million pounds of food and other grocery items valued at more than $22.5 million. This is roughly the equivalent of 11 million meals to people in need.
