Children, bring your baskets and parents, bring your cameras to the Easter Bunny Trail event today at Mike Greenwell’s Bat-A-Ball & Family Fun Park in Cape Coral.

The free event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, is open to children 12 and younger.

“This is our 21st annual Easter event,” said manager Dana Waters. “This is our 21st season, and we’ve done an event every year since we opened.”

Instead of the traditional egg hunt, they will do an Easter trail on Saturday.

“We used to do an Easter Egg hunt but we switched to a trail idea, because it’s safer and all kids get the same thing. We modeled it after our Safe Trick-or-Treat event.

“It is on the miniature golf course. Kids will travel from hole to hole, receiving Easter goodies from local business sponsors. At the final hole, they get to meet the Easter Bunny.”

Waters said that will be a great photo opportunity for those who bring their children, and suggests bringing a camera for the free photo opportunity. Children are asked to bring their own baskets, she said.

“We are also accepting donations of pet food for our local animal shelters. If they bring a donation they are entered into a raffle for a giant Easter basket filled with goodies.”

The pet food will be divided and donated to several local animal shelters. There is a special need for cat food.

It is a large event every year, she said.

“We usually have about 1,500 people but it moves very smoothly and very quickly.”

A lot of the plastic eggs will have special prizes in them that can be redeemed at a special prize table.

The event is sponsored by Gator Country 101.9.

Raffle sponsors include Tropical Twisters, Easy Cash Pawn, Pink Poodle Grooming, Kodokan Judo, Creative Kids Academy, Martial Arts University, Fort Myers Skatium, Perkins Restaurant in North Fort Myers, 1st Assembly West Church, Madd Hatter Men’s Salon and Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary.

Representatives from 13 businesses will be there as well to hand out goodies at the holes.

“The biggest thing is to have an event where kids have fun and are safe, and all treated equally,” she said, without the free-for-all that can happen at a traditional hunt.
