Southwest Florida law enforcement will join together on Sunday, March 25, and Monday, March 26, at the “Tip A Cop” fund raiser at Joe’s Crab Shack in Fort Myers.

This annual event benefits local Special Olympics athletes. Deputies, officers and civilians will serve as celebrity greeters and waiters from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday at Joe’s Crab Shack, 2024 W. First Street, next to Centennial Park in Fort Myers.

The effort is the first of many to raise money for Special Olympics.

Also planned is the annual “Law Enforcement Torch Run” scheduled for Friday, April 20. The Torch Run is an intra-state relay involving more than 300 city, county, state and federal agencies throughout 67 counties in Florida. The Lee County awareness run will begin at 8 a.m. at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters, 14750 Six Mile Cypress Parkway in south Fort Myers, and end at the Big Lots parking lot at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Pondella Road in North Fort Myers.

Participation is restricted to law enforcement and first responder agencies.

T-shirts and hats will be on sale in the Joe’s Crab Shack lobby. Shirts are $12, and hats are $10, or both can be purchased for $20. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Florida.
