A man is accused of molesting a Cape Coral child under the age of 12.

David Wesley Rodriguez, 57, of 257 Del Ray Ave., Fort Myers, was arrested and charged Tuesday with lewd lascivious behavior molest victim less than 12 years of age offender 18 years of age or older.

As of Thursday, he remained at the Lee County Jail on $250,000 bond.

On Feb. 28, Cape police responded to a home in the on Southeast 13th Terrace for an information report. A woman stated to police that she observed Rodriguez pull his hand away in a quick motion from the girl’s pants.

She thought it had happened before, but she was not sure.

When Rodriguez left the home, the woman pulled the girl aside and asked if he had been touching her. The girl reportedly said for about six months.

The woman then contacted the Cape police.

The Department of Children and Families was also notified.

Rodriguez has a court appearance scheduled April 23.
