Extravaganza Spring Fashion Show on Thursday, March 22

The “Ladies of the Elks” invite you to view the beautiful spring fashions of casual, cruise and dressy wear presented by Belk’s of Cape Coral on Thursday, March 22. Doors open 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, located at 5630 Pine Island Road NW, Bokeelia. Enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by LOTE at noon then it’s fashion show time. Tickets are $15 which includes the lunch and fashion show. All proceeds go to local youth programs. Join the fun . Only advance tickets. Pine Island Writers to feature

mystery writer Marty Ambrose

Pine Island Writers will feature guest author Marty Ambrose on Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m.-noon at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Her topic is “Writing the Whodunnit.”

The Mango Bay Mystery series is set on a fictional island in Southwest Florida and features amateur sleuth, Mallie Monroe. The first book, Peril in Paradise, was published in 2009 She is hard at work on book No. 5: Tropical Trouble.

Marty has also worked at Edison State College for over two decades as a professor of English and Creative Writing. She lives on Pine Island with her husband, ex-WINK-TV newsman, Jim McLaughlin. Contact her at www.martyambrose.com

Book Signing

Author Laura Allen Nonemaker will take part in a “Meet the Author” book signing at Barnes & Noble, 13751 S. Tamiami Trail, Market Square, Fort Myers, on March 24 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Nonemaker, a resident of Cape Coral, FL, will be available to sign copies of her book, Benny’s Angel: A God’s Secret Garden Adventure. Put Benny Bunny in your Easter basket! Who stole the flowers in God’s Secret Garden? Find out in Benny’s Angel, a tale, which uses animals, nature, and a visit from an angel to teach the importance of prayer and the value of trusting God.

Cape Coral Farmers Market

The Cape Coral Farmers Market is your Saturday destination for fresh locally grown produce, native plants,. Gulf-fresh seafood, just baked breads and pastries and much more.

The 2011-2012 season began and continues every Saturday until May 12. The market is open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. every Saturday with the area’s finest quality vendors, live music and entertainment and informative community presentations

Edison & Ford

Winter Estates

The Edison Ford and Captiva Cruises has resumed its Boat Cruises & Tours from Captiva Island to the Edison & Ford Winter Estates, Wednesdays, 10 a.m. 4:30 p.m.

The cruise tour will provide a unique look at the Caloosahatchee River and its importance ecologically and culturally, a great view of the Edison Ford from the water, lunch at a private club and a tour of the Edison & Ford Winter Estates.

Ticket costs are: Edison Ford members $65 adults, $55 children (ages 12 and under); non members $75 adults, $65 children (ages 12 and under) plus tax and includes cruise, lunch and tour of the Edison Ford. Seating is limited and reservations are suggested by calling 239-472-5300. Customized private tours can be scheduled for groups, departing from various locations any day of the week.

GreenMarket

Guided Walks

Lee County Conservation 20/20 is once again conducting guided walks at Prairie Pines Preserve on the first and third Saturdays of each month at 9 a.m., through April. The Preserve is at 28400 N. Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers. Participants will meet at the parking lot kiosk. No special attire is required, but closed toed shoes, hat, sunscreen and insect repellent are always a good idea. The stroll around a seasonal marsh will introduce participants to the birds, butterflies, plants and animals that call it home. Visit one small section of a 2,654-acre wilderness oasis that includes nature trails, wildlife observation areas and equestrian trails. Restroom facilities are available.
