Woman to serve jail time for Cape resort theft
A woman accused of stealing money from The Resort at Marina Village while employed with the business was sentenced Monday to six months in jail.
Deborah Lee Gaetano, 52, of 15738 Treasure Lane, Fort Myers, pled no contest in February to larceny grand theft $20,000 less than $100,000. She was sentenced on second-degree grand theft in a plea deal with the state.
Gaetano received six months in jail, followed by two years of community control and 10 years of probation, according to the State Attorney’s Office.
She was also ordered to pay $66,180.34 in restitution to the resort.
“She was the assisant controller responsible for making cash deposits for the three restaurants at the marina,” Samantha Syoen, spokeswoman for the state, said Tuesday. “She took the deposits to pay for her lifestyle.”
Assistant state attorney James Miller handled the case.
