CCPD K-9s receive national re-certification
Three of the six Cape Coral Police Department K-9 teams received certification through the National Police Canine Association on March 8.
Master Cpl. Chris Clapp with K-9 Dux, Master Cpl. Jamie Grey with K-9 Daro and Officer Bob Reese with K-9 Ben received certifications in patrol, criminal apprehension, obedience, tracking and narcotics detection.
A certification from the National Police Canine Association ensures the residents of Cape Coral that the police department’s K-9 teams are operating in accordance with the highest industry standards.
The other three K-9 teams are still in compliance with the association. The teams alternate years so that when it is testing time, the entire K-9 unit is not unavailable for deployment.
“We are extremely proud of our K-9 unit for re-certifying with the NPCA,” Lt. Tony Sizemore, spokesman for the Cape police, said. “We are not surprised, however; the Cape Coral police K-9 unit is one of the best in the United States.”
