Cape woman dies from injuries suffered in I-75 accident

By Staff

A Cape Coral woman died Tuesday morning from the injuries she sustained when the truck that she was driving blew a tire and overturned twice.

Laura Ford, 30, was being treated at Lee Memorial Hospital, where she was taken following the Monday accident on Interstate 75.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Ford was traveling north on I-75 in a 2001 Dodge Dakota SL when the left rear tire blew at 3:51 p.m. at mile marker 133, north of County Road 876/Daniels Parkway.

The front passenger’s side of the truck collided into the cargo trailer of a semitrailer that also was traveling north on I-75. The Dodge separated from the cargo trailer and overturned twice before it came to a final rest.

The FHP reported Ford, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained critical injuries when she was ejected. The driver of the semitrailer was not injured.

FHP said the accident was not alcohol related.
