A Cape mother and daughter team has submitted a recipe video that could land them a chance to be on the Rachael Ray television show.

Mom Rae Riki Menna and her daughter, Malley Menna, are part of a video cooking contest being sponsored by Uncle Ben’s Rice, as part of their Let’s get kids cooking! Ben’s Beginner Contest.

The video for their recipe is now on line, with the public available to vote. Today, March 14, is the last day to vote.

They are asking Cape residents to vote for them. To vote, go to unclebens.com and click on the contest. It will link you to a Facebook page, where you need to search “Malley” to see the short video and vote.

Thousands of videos were submitted, and the company chose 500 to put on line. Four finalists will be chosen to appear on the show and demonstrate their cooking talent, and the grand prize winner will get $20,000 and a $50,000 cafeteria makeover for their school.

Their recipe is called Malley Rae’s Rice n Korean Beef, by mom Rae Riki and daughter Malley Rae Menna.

The key ingredients are Uncle Ben’s Rice, meat, low sodium soy sauce, water, garlic with veggies and a seaweed wrap optional.

“it’s an old recipe we tweaked,” said Rae Riki. “My mom’s best friend is Korean, and ate it all the time – we roll it in seaweed. My family also has it all the time.”

She said her daughter picked the recipe. Rae Riki is a cancer survivor, and particularly enjoyed the dish when she was undergoing chemotherapy.

“Then we saw the contest on the Rachel Ray show,” she said. “We watch it a lot. They were doing a segment on healthy cooking with children. Malley said, ‘Mama, you always ate the beef and rice dish when you were sick and it made you healthy and stronger.'”

Malley said she really likes watching Rachel Ray.

“We also use a lot of her pans to cook,” she said. “We make a lot of things she makes.”

She said she would love to be on the show.

Remember, today is the last day to vote, and you have until midnight. “Somebody has to win, and it would be great if it was us,” said Rae Riki.
