A Fort Myers bicyclist critically injured after being struck by a car has died from injuries suffered in the accident, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

He has been identified as Miguel Garcia-Barranco, 33, of 5629 6th Avenue, Fort Myers. The investigation shows Garcia-Barranco failed to yield to traffic, officials said.

The accident happened Saturday at 9:08 p.m.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a 2008 Mazda 3 was travelling northbound in the left lane of Cleveland Avenue approaching Palm Drive. The bicyclist, crossing from the west side to the east side of Cleveland Avenue, entered the lane. The Mazda’s side front bumper collided with the rear tire of the bicycle.
