CCPD looking for hit-and-run driver

By Staff

The Cape Coral Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying or locating a driver and vehicle that were involved in a hit-and-run traffic crash Saturday night involving a serious injury.

At 6:50 p.m., police responded to a reported hit-and-run crash in the 1400 block of Southeast 16th Place. A man, 73, was walking south along the shoulder of 16th Place when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Traffic investigators estimate that the vehicle was traveling 50 mph when the man was struck.

The man was struck head-on, causing serious injuries to his right leg and right arm. He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert.

As of Monday, the man’s condition was no longer life threatening.

The involved vehicle fled the scene. However, the passenger’s side mirror was left behind. The mirror was damaged and came off of the vehicle as a result of the crash.

Upon examination of the mirror and other evidence at the scene, investigators believe that the involved vehicle is a dark-colored Chrysler Sebring or a Dodge Avenger. Both vehicles share the same mirror at certain years.

If anyone has information about the investigation, contact the CCPD at 574-3223; online at: www.capecops.com/webtips; text CCPD plus your message to CRIMES; or call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477).
