A Cape Coral man is accused of robbing a pizza shop Tuesday night while armed with a pistol before being stopped by the employees on duty.

Ronnie Dale Brown, 38, of 2022 N.E. 10th Place, was arrested and charged with robbery with a firearm and resist officer obstruct without violence.

As of Wednesday, he remained at the Lee County Jail on $101,000 bond.

Employees of the Domino’s Pizza, at 1609 Andalusia Blvd., observed a man lurking behind the store at about 10 p.m. When they went out to investigate, the man was gone. The employees returned inside to close up for the night.

About 30 seconds later, a man entered armed with a pistol. The man, later identified as Brown, allegedly pointed the gun at the employees and demanded money. One of the employees tallying the register gave Brown $310 in cash.

According to a report, Brown tried to run out of the store when another employee jumped on him. The two struggled as they made their way to the back door and out into the alley. Brown dropped the gun during the fight.

The struggle continued and the employee eventually detained Brown.

Cape police, who were responding to a report of an armed robbery, arrived and took Brown into custody. While in handcuffs, he reportedly shoved away from officers and tried to run. Police deployed a Taser and stopped Brown.

He was placed under arrest and transported to the county jail.

“We don’t really recommend that our victims engage in a physical confrontation with suspects,” Lt. Tony Sizemore, spokesman for the Cape police, said. “However, this case worked out in the good guys’ favor.”

“We’d prefer that you call 911 and let us handle it,” he added.

Brown has a court appearance scheduled for April 9.
