A woman has been released from the hospital after a Cape Coral driver crashed into the motorcycle that she was riding on over the weekend.

Delilah Jo Carraway, 54, of Zolfo Springs, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital as of Thursday afternoon, according to hospital officials. She was transported to the hospital on Saturday following the accident.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Carraway was traveling eastbound on State Road 78 on a 2005 Harley-Davidson, driven by Garry D. Nicholas, 56, of Fort Myers, when traffic ahead slowed down east of Old Bayshore Road.

Nicholas drove onto the paved shoulder of the roadway and began passing vehicles also headed east. At the same time, a 1996 Chevy Berretta, being driven by Luke V. Gainey, 17, of the Cape, was eastbound on SR 78.

Gainey, who did not see the motorcycle approaching from behind, tried to make a right turn into a driveway at 11560 Bayshore Road, according to the FHP. The front side of the motorcycle hit the passenger’s side of the car.

Nicholas sustained minor, non-incapacitating injuries in the accident.

Carraway sustained serious injuries and was transported.

Gainey, who was wearing a seat belt at the time, was not injured.

According to the FHP, the accident was not alcohol related.
