PAL to conduct youth scuba class
The Cape Coral Police Department’s Police Athletic League will conduct a scuba class for children beginning April 15. It is a 10-week course involving classroom and pool instruction, as well as practical and certification dives in local waters.
The CCPD has sponsored scuba classes for children through the PAL program for 15 years. The current assistant instructors are individuals who went through the program when they were in high school. More than 400 children and their parents have been certified since the program started.
The program is registered with NAUI and adheres to the NAUI rules and regulations for scuba instruction.
The program coordinator is a retired Cape police officer and the instructors are volunteers who are NAUI-certified diving instructors.
An orientation will be held at 7 p.m. April 15 at the Cape Coral Police Department headquarters, at 1100 Cultural Park Blvd. Information regarding class structure, expectations and general information on how the class works will be discussed. Registration for the orientation is not required.
The cost is $50 for those under 18 years of age.
