Woman remains hospitalized after Tuesday accident
A woman remained hospitalized Tuesday after a car driven by a Cape Coral teen collided with the motorcycle that she was riding on over the weekend.
Delilah Jo Carraway, 54, of Zolfo Springs, was listed in good condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where she was transported Saturday after the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Carraway was traveling east on State Road 78 on a 2005 Harley-Davidson, driven by Garry D. Nicholas, 56, of Fort Myers, when traffic ahead slowed down east of Old Bayshore Road.
Nicholas drove onto the paved shoulder of the roadway and began passing vehicles also headed east. At the same time, a 1996 Chevy Berretta, being driven by Luke V. Gainey, 17, of the Cape, was eastbound on SR 78.
Gainey, who did not see the motorcycle approaching from behind, tried to make a right turn into a driveway at 11560 Bayshore Road, according to the FHP. The front side of the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the car.
Nicholas sustained minor, non-incapacitating injuries in the accident.
Carraway sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Gainey, who was wearing a seat belt at the time, was not injured.
According to the FHP, the accident was not alcohol related.
