A Cape Coral man’s condition has improved following a recent accident in which his vehicle crashed into a guardrail and overturned twice.

Thomas Robert Patton, 52, of 2526 N.W. Embers Terrace, was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Lee Memorial Hospital, according to hospital officials.

On Feb. 16, Patton was driving eastbound on Hancock Bridge Parkway in a 2006 Kia Optima when the left side of the vehicle traveled onto the unpaved median, according to a crash report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Patton reportedly overcorrected to the right, traveling across both of the eastbound lanes of the road and onto the road’s south shoulder. The front of the car then struck the rail, which is surrounded by a concrete power pole.

The Kia overturned twice before coming to a rest on its wheels.

Patton, who was ejected from the vehicle, was transported to the hospital with incapacitating injuries. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

According to the LCSO, Patton was at fault for speeding – his estimated speed was about 75 mph. The posted speed limit on the road is 45 mph.
