A Cape Coral man is accused of bludgeoning a man in the head while attempting to rob him at his home.

On Wednesday, the Cape police responded to a report of a robbery and aggravated battery at 2020 Savona Parkway W. The caller told 911 dispatchers that that homeowner of the Savona Parkway home knocked on his door covered in blood and asking for help.

Upon arrival of police, the man told officers that an acquaintance, Joseph Martin Lee Keagle, 22, had beaten him. The man had recently allowed Keagle to stay with him as the two were beginning an Internet sales business. When the business was not going to work out, the man told Keagle that he needed to move out.

Several minutes later, Keagle reportedly confronted the man while armed with an unknown blunt object in his hand. Keagle allegedly demanded money and began bludgeoning the man on the head with the blunt object.

According to officials, Keagle was aware that the man had recently sold an automobile and still had the cash in his home. The man was able to get away and run to the neighbor’s house for help.

Keagle fled the home prior to the arrival of police.

On Thursday, a Cape detective assigned to the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task force received a tip that Keagle was staying at the Candlewood Suites in Fort Myers. Cape police, along with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, located Keagle at the hotel and took him into custody without incident.

Keagle was arrested and charged with robbery no firearm or weapon and aggravated battery cause bodily harm or disability. He was booked at the Lee County Jail, where he remained Friday on no bond.

Keagle has a court appearance scheduled for March 19.
