The Island Coast High School College and Career Night will be held today, Feb. 15. The event starts at 6 p.m. and will run to approximately 7:30 p.m. All Lee County high school students and their parents are invited to attend.

College and university representatives will share information about admissions, academic programs, financial aid, scholarships, campus life and more.

“Colleges and career institutions will be coming from six different states,” said Nancy Hagy, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) teacher who is coordinating the event. “There will be something for everyone there.”

There will be more than 36 state and private schools at the event.

“All major Division I colleges or universities from the state of Florida will be at the event. That includes the University of Florida, Florida State University, Florida A&M and University of Miami,” she said.

“In addition, we will have several other Division 1 schools such as the University of Alabama, Penn State University, University of Iowa and Notre Dame.”

From the local area, Edison State College and Ave Marie will be among those represented.

“Many community colleges will also be represented, including Lake Sumter Community College from Orlando – that is a big theater school – and Santa Fe Community College out of Gainsville,” she said.

Representatives from all main military branches will also be in attendance, including the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines and West Point Academy.

Specialized institutions will also be dispensing information.

“Two are Johnson & Wales from Miami and Baker College out of Michigan, two of the top culinary art schools,” she said.

There will cosmetology institutions, such as Sunstate Academy locally and Regency Beauty Institute out of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Specialized and religious schools will also be there, like Ave Maria, Warner University and Webber International University.
