Steel piece of World Trade Center will be on display at City Hall Wednesday

By Staff

A piece of a steel I-beam from the World Trade Center will be on display in the main customer parking lot at City Hall Wednesday from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. The piece is on loan from the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department. The department picked up the artifact in New York City this past July.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey received about 1,100 trade center artifacts to distribute across the country. Of the 2,753 people who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center, 343 were firefighters and 60 were police officers from New York City and the Port Authority.

The 30 by 16 by 16 steel piece of the I-beam at City Hall is adorned with a Remembrance Flag that lists all of the victims of the 9-11 terrorist attack.

The public is invited to stop by to view the artifact.

The parking lot is on the west side of City Hall at 1015 Cultural Park Boulevard.
