Incumbent Pete Brandt and challenger John Carioscia will face off in November’s General Election after emerging as the top two vote getters in Tuesday’s primary in District 2.

Carioscia garnered 4,090 votes, or 40.12 percent of the total vote. Brandt took in 2,873 votes, for 28.18 percent.

Also running were Joe Coviello, who garnered 2,319 votes for 22.75 percent, and Dan Sheppard, took in 754 votes for 7.49 percent.

John Miehle took in 148 votes for 1.45 percent of the total votes, despite withdrawing from the race several weeks ago.

Both Brandt and Carioscia now have set their sights on November.

Brandt said he hoped to have the chance to keep campaigning and he had some new ideas moving forward with his campaign toward the Nov. 8 General Election.

The fact that he made it through the primary election is clear indication the current council is doing things the right way, he said.

“It’s clear to everyone the right track is the one we’re on,” Brandt said. “We just need to make sure our message gets to enough people.”

John Carioscia said he plans to stay issue oriented, dealing in solutions and not problems.

Grateful to both his supporters and contributors, Carioscia said he feels confident heading toward the general election in November.

He added that the way the public has been treated by the incumbents on the dais likely helped to fuel each incumbent coming in second in their respective races.

“There’s a pretty wide gap between the incumbents and those who came in ahead of them. It might be indicative of the way people feel,” Carioscia said.

Both Carioscia and Brandt were disappointed that only 11 percent of registered voters turned out at the polls.

“I’d like to see a large group come out so everybody can be heard,” Carioscia said.

“It was very disappointing to me. I was hoping to see 15 percent or more,” Brandt added.

Results are unofficial until certified by the Supervisor of Elections Office.
