A man accused of robbing a Cape Coral gas station received 15 years in prison earlier this month after being found guilty of robbery.

Bo Daniel Jones, 21, of 26713 Sherwood Lane, Bonita Springs, was adjudicated guilty on Aug. 9 of robbery no firearm or weapon. He was sentenced to 15 years in state prison, according to court documents.

Robert Denny, with the Public Defender’s Office, represented Jones.

He did not immediately return a message seeking comment Thursday.

Assistant State Attorney Jody White handled the case.

In April, the Cape Coral police responded to a report of a robbery at a gas station in the 800 block of Cape Coral Parkway East. The clerk said he had just stepped outside briefly when a man approached and forced him inside.

The man told the clerk to open the register and give him the money.

He threatened to shoot the clerk while keeping one hand behind his back.

The clerk opened the register and the man grabbed the $5 and $10 bills.

According to police, the robber was on a cell phone during the crime and the person on the other end of the line called police and reported the robbery.

Officers detained Jones, John Joseph Rice of Cape Coral and a woman not far from the scene. Jones, who was later identified as the robber, was found to be in possession of $220 dollars, all in denominations of $5 and $10 bills.

During questioning, Jones reportedly admitted to robbing the gas station after planning the crime with Rice. The two planned to split the proceeds.

Jones and Rice were taken into custody and charged with robbery.

The woman, who was not involved in the incident, was released.

In May, the State Attorney’s Office declined to file the robbery charge against Rice, 47, of 4218 S.E. 20th Place. There was “insufficient evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt” for the case, court documents state.
