A Cape Coral man accused of doctor shopping was found guilty earlier this year on eight counts and sentenced to four years of state probation.

Edwardo Victor Martinez, 68, of 1117 N.W. 22nd Ave., pleaded no contest to eight counts of withholding information from a practitioner in February and was adjudicated guilty. Martinez received four years of state drug probation.

He was nolle prossed – not prosecuted – on an additional 27 counts.

A woman who answered his phone Wednesday declined to comment.

Attorney Ryan Downey represented Martinez.

He did not immediately return a message seeking comment Wednesday.

In November, Martinez was picked up on a warrant and charged with 35 felony counts of fraud concealing information to obtain a prescription. The authorities had received information that Martinez was possibly obtaining prescriptions from more than one physician within a 30-day period.

Detectives learned that Martinez had received Vicoden and Xanax on a regular basis from March 17, 2008, to Feb. 20, 2010, from the Doctor’s Office of Kenneth Berdick, at 2665 Cleveland Ave., Suite 108, Fort Myers.

They also found that he had received morphine, in the forms of MSIR, MS Contin and morphine sulfate, during the same time frame on a regular basis from the Advanced Pain Management and Spine Specialists, at 6120 Winkler Road, Suite J, Fort Myers.

Martinez had reportedly obtained 4,532 pills in total fraudulently.
