Tons of tiles will now be available at ICAN Junction, the local environmentally friendly, one-stop shop for new and used home improvement materials.
A big donation from an area business has just come through — with the literally tons of tiles.
In fact, the store will now remodel to profile the tile, said store manager Michael Graves. “When they re-sell, it will be 50 to 75 percent off retail, like all of our items.”
The non-profit store benefits the Island Coast Aids Network — ICAN.
At The Junction, you’ll find cabinets, large appliances, furniture, plumbing fixtures, flooring, light fixtures, doors, windows, lumber, mirrors, home accents and more.
The purpose of the shop is not only to provide do-it-yourself goods, and keep usable, sellable materials out of the landfill.
Because of their mission, they get many donations, including the tiles coming this week. “We are going to start picking them up Tuesday morning, July 12,” Graves said. “This is tile you can use in your home for flooring, bathrooms, back splashes (tile on walls) and some granite pieces. But all I can say is it is tons of tile.”
An anonymous donor called last week and offered the tiles. “I’ll have three warehouses full of tiles, come and get it.”
There will be some high-end and plenty of decorative tile. “That’s some of the things I have my customers ask for.”
Graves said he was overwhelmed when he got to the donor’s warehouse. “The quantity was the most overwhelming thing.”
Earlier this year, they had their grand reopening, which highlighted reorganized the space the space to make it more consumer friendly. “We rebranded from ICANstruction Junction to ICAN Junction — the Green Guys. We wanted to get it out there we are green friendly as far as recycling and keeping reusable material out of the landfill.”
It is buy now, even out of season, he said. “This is because people who are still here are making home improvements, and for many that have left, they gave handymen and contractors lists of improvements to do now. They come here because my materials are 50 to 70 percent below retail on all items, all the time.”
An important supporter, Graves said, is David Smallwood, the owner of Str8line Tattoo, which is located right next door.
“The main reason we support ICAN Junction is that it helps keep us safer from HIV/ADS with their support.”
