A Cape Coral man remained in jail Monday after he reportedly attempted to break into a vehicle occupied by an armed WastePro employee.
Joseph Daniel Clohessey, 24, of 1813 N.E. Second Terrace, was arrested and charged Saturday with unarmed burglary of occupied conveyance, loitering or prowling and resist officer obstruct without violence.
Denied bond on prior drug charges, he is still at the Lee County Jail.
At about 9 a.m. Saturday, a WastePro supervisor was sitting in a pickup truck parked on the side of Northeast Third Street. He was monitoring trash pick up when he saw that someone was trying to open his passenger door.
According to police, the supervisor has a concealed weapons permit and he reached for his pistol. As the supervisor pulled his gun, the man attempting to get into the truck pressed his face against the window to look inside.
The man, reportedly identified as Clohessey, saw the pistol and ran to a nearby house and attempted to hide outside. The supervisor called police.
Officers arrived and began searching for the man. Clohessey was located, but he reportedly jumped a fence and took off running. He was again located by police, at which point Clohessey surrendered and was taken into custody.
He has court appearances scheduled for Thursday and Aug. 8.
