20th Annual Platinum Coast Cat Fanciers show July 23-24
If you think your tabby cat looks like a pedigreed show kitty, than you’re going to have a chance to find out if your pet has what it takes to be a champion when the 20th Annual Platinum Coast Cat Fanciers brings its cat show back to Fort Myers July 23 – 24.
Household pets will have the chance to compete along side vaunted breeds like Persians, pixie bobs and ragdolls, although the household cats will only face off against each other, not their fancy brethren.
Organizer Charlene Campbell said it is important to include all cat owners in the festivities.
“We want everyone to come out and be able to show off their kitty,” Campbell said.
Of course, the main attraction will the rare and exotic breeds of cats in competition, which brings people from all over the southern United States to attempt winning the coveted “Best in Show.”
But Campbell said it is important for people to know the Household Pet competition is open to everybody and you don’t need an animal from a special bloodline to compete.
“I’m really excited about that,” Campbell said of the household pet competition. “I’ve gotten a couple of calls but there’s still plenty of time to enter your pets.”
Shelters from five area counties — including Charlotte, Sarasota and Lee — will be on hand for adoptions, according to Campbell.
Admission to the event is only $5, but Campbell said donations — including food and litter — for the shelters would appreciated.
“Canned food would be the best because that’s the hardest for shelters to get,” Campbell said.
The Platinum Coast Cat Fanciers Show will be held at the Shriners Araba Temple in Fort Myers. Parking is free.
